Color tuning and white light emission based on tetraphenylethylene-functionalized cucurbit[7]uril and FRET triggered by host-guest self-assembly

This work utilizes the advantages produced when combining aggregation-induced emission in aqueous medium with macrocyclic amphiphiles that can noncovalently incorporate donor/acceptor pairs. A novel FRET system was assembled by using tetraphenylethylene-functionalized cucurbit[7]uril (TPE-Q[7]) as a amphiphile platform imparting energy transfer, tetraphenylethylene (TPE) donor luminophore, and rhodamine (RhB) acceptor luminophore. The energy-transfer efficiency of this 68% TPE-[Q7]:RhB = 1:1 an solution, antenna effect TPE-[Q7] on RhB calculated to be 8.36. Given dynamic nature noncovalent interaction, delicately varying molar ratio between allowed for fine tuning process medium, which achieved high multicolor visible spectrum including white. Results study are promising creating new tunable luminescent white-light-emitting materials future based appropriate selection donor-acceptor pairs FRET.
